Planning your portrait photoshoot

Portrait shoots are designed to work around you and your horses or dogs. Once a date is confirmed, we can plan exactly what you would like to take away as memories. Whether that's by phone or email, bringing your ideas to life really sets up a great session. We can talk through the venue which can simply be where your horse is kept or at a different location, maybe some local woods or the beach. Just as important is what to wear, how to get the best from your horse or dog, photographing more than one, and even if you're looking to include other animals or children etc.

Outlined below are some helpful points:

1. Shoot Costs - I will spend up two hours with you and am happy to travel within a 30 mile radius of Petersfield (thereafter I will charge 45p per mile which will be added to your invoice). My photography packages include more than simply the photography itself. They also include a pre-shoot planning session, my time on site, all editing and personal gallery uploads and an inclusive selection of digital and print images which are entirely your choice.

  • Mini Moments - £100.00 including a 45 minute session fee and a mounted 8" x 6" lustre print
  • Every Day - £250.00 including session fee, 5 social media digital images, and one mounted & framed 8" x 6" fine art print
  • Special Day - £300.00, including session fee, 15 social media images, one mounted & framed 10" x 8" fine art print and three 8" x 6" prints
  • Extraordinary Day - £350.00, including session fee, 50 of your favourites on a personalised USB and printed in 6" x 4" lustre prints, a mounted 10" x 8" fine art print and three 8" x 6" lustre prints

2. Images - I can take around 200-300 photos, from which a selection will be edited and of the best uploaded to a personal gallery and password protected for you to view at your leisure. I aim to get an initial review within 10 to 14 days.

3. Date/Time/Weather changes - As ever with the English weather, it can be difficult to guarantee it won't be raining. Ahead of the day, I will get in touch to confirm exact timing and venue. If you think you need to change these, do not leave it to the last minute as I often have more than one shoot on the same date.  If the weather looks as though it's going to work against us, we can reschedule.  Likewise if you get to your horse and discover it's ill or lame, let me know immediately.  These things do happen, but as much advance notice as possible is helpful.

4. Turnout - For horses, it's important to look smart and that goes for your horse and tack as well as you. There's no need to be in breeches if you don't want to be, but be you as that is what will make you most relaxed. Think ahead a bit as to whether you want to be photographed riding/jumping/bareback etc so we have a plan in advance.  If you want to plait your horse, feel free to do so; it'll look really smart in the photos. Likewise if you want to have a change of clothes, feel free to do so, but think about what you want to wear and if it will go with the setting, the colour of your horse etc.  You don't want to be lost in the photos. Be aware that a decision to ride bareback or without a protective helmet is done at your own risk.

For dogs, they just need to look their best; maybe with a favourite toy to help them concentrate
